Poster Preservatives: We need your help!

Design for good! Help fellow FoGD'ers raise food for the Oregon Food Bank!

What: Poster Preservatives - Call for Submissions! 
When: Now until THIS FRIDAY, July 22nd at NOON!
How: Send an 11x17 PDF to [email protected]. Come to the food drive next week - exchange 10 non-perishable food items for a cool poster!
Why: Awesome way to help the community through design! 
Who: FoGD'ers Tanya Naylor, Anna Stark, and Tina Le 

On behalf of Potluck in the Park, Poster Preservatives is a food drive allowing for students & faculty to help the community through design. The food drive will take place the following week and will consist of designers donating posters to be exchanged for 10 items of non-perishable food. At the conclusion of the drive, all food donations will be given to the Oregon Food Bank.

What we need from you at this point is a poster donation that will be exchanged for 10 items of food during the drive. All designs must be no larger than 11x17, and can be sent to [email protected] in PDF form. We encourage students, faculty and the community to help with whatever you can - pun intended! 

More information about the food drive will be announced this weekend! Stay tuned!

2011 PSU Graphic Design Senior Show!

Hi guys!

 

We're almost there! Sophomores have turned in their portfolios for the review, Seniors and putting the final touches on theirs, and then it will be summer!

 

Kick off the summer with the PSU-GD Senior Show, presented in conjunction with Friends of Graphic Design! The Show, Fresh Produce, will be at the new ADX Space (417 SE 11th Ave, Portland, Or 97214) on Friday June 17th, 2011, from 5-9pm. It'll be a great opportunity to meet some of the freshest design talent in Portland. Come on out, they’re ripe for the pickens!

FOGD ELECTIONS!

This spring two of our officers, Alex Boyd and Jasmine Silver are graduating, and while we're sad to see them leave, it's off to new adventures for both of them! This also means that we have two positions to fill for the upcoming year (Treasurer and Media + Web Guru) If you're interested in running for either of these positions, read on! Check back next week for voting, too!

To apply, read all the information below, and then download (and email to [email protected]) the attached questionnaire.

Applications are due by June 1st ; Elections will be held the following week (the poll will be open online June 4th-8th).

• Both positions are eligible for Service Awards. ($$$)
• Both positions are open to all students currently enrolled as Graphic Design majors.
• Both positions are open to students of all levels (underclassmen are encouraged to apply!)
• Students will be required to sign a contract of commitment to the position before proceeding with duties and receiving stipend.

• You will work closely with the other student officers to help FoGD function.

• Both positions require a high level of organization and a time commitment.

 

Due to the nature of the job and the time involved in training, new officers must have at least a year left in school. Those who would like to be involved but who will not be in school for at least another year are encouraged to apply for the Advisory Board.

Specifically,

• The Tech position requires the student to be proficient in the following programs, applications and contexts: Adobe Creative Suite, Video and sound editing, &  Web hosting + FTP file transfers

• The Budget position requires the student to be proficient with budget management and good at filling out forms!

Jennifer Daniel is our guest next week! We are all going to hear her talk at Be Honest and now here is your opportunity to get a taste of editorial illustration...remember her AWESOME Show & Tell talks about editorial illustration? Now is your chance to spend some IRL time with Jennifer and make and learn!

Jennifer will be conducting a workshop on Friday, May 6th from 12 to 4. The workshop will consist of a short presentation about editorial illustration, real world project briefs, working, making, refining, sweat, laughter, tears, jubiliation and maybe, just maybe the chance of having your work potentially PUBLISHED in the New York Times.

Workshop Week at Field Work!

We're pleased to announce that we'll be hosting some great workshops next week at Field Work!

Wednesday April 20th, we'll have a Quick-n-Dirty Photography workshop with Beth Olson, who'll show you how to take good product shots of your wonderful projects, even if all you have is a point and shoot!

Thursday April 21st, Ethan Allen Smith will be leading an HTML/CSS Basics workshop. 

Friday, April 22nd, Nathan Garvison is going to be giving an encore of his InDesign Workshop!

Space is limited to 25 people for each workshop, so go signup (at this really ugly website I found to do sign-ups on)!

SHIFT 6: Ten 5-minute presentations for inspiring sustainable design

Ten presenters will briefly share their observations, ideas and even challenges in shaping the future of visual communications.
