Alright everyone! It's that time of year again! Sophomore portfolios are in, Seniors are almost done, and it's time to vote for next year's FoGD Officers!

FOGD ELECTIONS!

This spring two of our officers, Alex Boyd and Jasmine Silver are graduating, and while we're sad to see them leave, it's off to new adventures for both of them! This also means that we have two positions to fill for the upcoming year (Treasurer and Media + Web Guru) If you're interested in running for either of these positions, read on! Check back next week for voting, too!

To apply, read all the information below, and then download (and email to [email protected]) the attached questionnaire.

Applications are due by June 1st ; Elections will be held the following week (the poll will be open online June 4th-8th).

• Both positions are eligible for Service Awards. ($$$)
• Both positions are open to all students currently enrolled as Graphic Design majors.
• Both positions are open to students of all levels (underclassmen are encouraged to apply!)
• Students will be required to sign a contract of commitment to the position before proceeding with duties and receiving stipend.

• You will work closely with the other student officers to help FoGD function.

• Both positions require a high level of organization and a time commitment.

 

Due to the nature of the job and the time involved in training, new officers must have at least a year left in school. Those who would like to be involved but who will not be in school for at least another year are encouraged to apply for the Advisory Board.

Specifically,

• The Tech position requires the student to be proficient in the following programs, applications and contexts: Adobe Creative Suite, Video and sound editing, &  Web hosting + FTP file transfers

• The Budget position requires the student to be proficient with budget management and good at filling out forms!

Meeting Minutes // Jan 25, 2011

Hi Everyone! 

Thanks to those who were able to make it today. We had a good turn out and got excited about a lot of upcoming things! Below is what we talked about; please feel free to weigh in on anything!

 

Bloggity Things!

>>We asked folks with tumblr accounts to share them with us, so we can to link to them from the blog! Send us yours if we don't have it already (and send it again if you think we do, just in case!)

>>We also asked people to send a link to their "one-a-days" / other extracurricular projects! 

Studio Tours!

>>We're going on a tour of Pinball next Friday, Feb 4th! There will be an online sign-up post @ 9am THIS Friday, Jan 28th.

>>We're going to Second Story Interactive on March 4th, Stumptown Printers on April 1st, and Nemo Design on April 8th! (Look for reminder posts closer to the time for these!)

Be Honest!

>>We are figuring out logistics of on campus/vs off campus and will keep everyone updated! 

Field Work!

>>There is going to be a Design Library opening at Field Work soon! March 1st to be exact.

>>There's going to be YouTube Jam Session at Field Work on February 2nd! It's open to the public, so bring your friends and get ready to share your fave videos with everyone!

>>We're going to be hosting lots of workshops in April at Field Work!
    >>Does anyone want to lead a workshop? YES? Great, email us or leave a comment!

>>We are putting together a pre-loved art supplies sale/swap sometime in April! Look for more information and don't throw away those art supplies just yet!

Mentoring!

Etsy Store?

>> We are looking into a collective FoGD Etsy Store/fundraiser! If you've got some wares you want to sell but haven't found the time or energy to set up shop yourself (or if you want to harness the power of FoGD!), let us know!  We are still working out the kinks but would probably do a 30/70 split on the proceeds (30% going to FoGD for programming).

Election Results!

Allllllright! We're ending the voting a day earlier than planned, because Ethan Allen Smith is going to be VP of ASPSU! Which is very exciting but also a bit sad for us. The GOOD NEWS is that he's going to be on the Advisory Board AND we have a great new Treasurer (Corbin LaMont!) and Web Guru (Allison Berg!) Big props to these ladies, I can't wait to get to work planning some great events for the rest of this year!

Speaking of planning, let's have a meeting next week! If we were to meet at 12:30, which day would everybody prefer? There's really no excuse for not getting in touch seeing as there are so many ways to do it!

Welcome Back 2011!

Hey FoGD! Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing (or productive!) break!

 

We've got lots of exciting things lined up for you this term but the first is: ELECTIONS!

 

Our lovely Ben Vickery (Web/Tech Support) and Heather Noddings (Budget Guru) are graduating so that means we have to replace them. While we're sad to see them go, it's off to new adventures for both of them and I can't wait to get some fresh faces involved and new ideas flowing!

(un)Official Introduction: Spring Senior Show

Hello, Friends of Graphic Design! I'm Nate Garvison, and I'm a senior in the graphic design program. If you haven't met me, I probably haven't had a class with you or we don't stalk each other on Twitter or Tumblr. Anyway enough with introductions. Let's get down to business.

In March, probably during spring break, a week after we finish with the term so we can get some rest from finals, I am hoping that we can do a senior portfolio show.

I think it would be a great to have an introduction to our community in Portland, saying, "Hello. We're here to serve your needs for design." We all have our own strengths, so I want us to showcase them. Bringing your best to the table is essential to the show. I am not concerned if you will have already taken portfolio class (ART 472), but if you don't have a good book, then I recommend waiting for the summer show.

The way the show would be organized would up to all of us, but my hope is that it will be an open format, where you can just show your book or do an elaborate installation. Of course you would benefit more from the latter, but it's totally your choice.

I would like to have a meeting for this as soon as possible, preferably before Thanksgiving. We will just talk about when and possibly where it will take place, any ideas about naming and formats you are thinking of for your stuff. If you have any ideas as to where it can happen, by all means, bring it to the meeting. I am giving several options for our first meeting, and, as a true democracy, I will count up how many of each is best for all, and whichever has the most available participants will be the one we go with. If it's close, then we'll hold two meetings. If that is the case, I will attend both, since it seems I am the instigator.

Our options for meetings are:

Monday, Nov. 15 at 5:00pm

Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 5:00pm

Wednesday, Nov. 17 at noon (12:00pm)

Thursday, Nov. 18 at noon (12:00pm)

Friday, Nov. 19 at noon (12:00pm)
