Alright everyone! It's that time of year again! Sophomore portfolios are in, Seniors are almost done, and it's time to vote for next year's FoGD Officers!

Take a look at the Candiates' Profiles and then head on over to vote! Voting remains anonymous but we do need your pdx.edu email address to make sure no one is cheating!

FOGD ELECTIONS!

This spring two of our officers, Alex Boyd and Jasmine Silver are graduating, and while we're sad to see them leave, it's off to new adventures for both of them! This also means that we have two positions to fill for the upcoming year (Treasurer and Media + Web Guru) If you're interested in running for either of these positions, read on! Check back next week for voting, too!

To apply, read all the information below, and then download (and email to [email protected]) the attached questionnaire.

Applications are due by June 1st ; Elections will be held the following week (the poll will be open online June 4th-8th).

• Both positions are eligible for Service Awards. ($$$)
• Both positions are open to all students currently enrolled as Graphic Design majors.
• Both positions are open to students of all levels (underclassmen are encouraged to apply!)
• Students will be required to sign a contract of commitment to the position before proceeding with duties and receiving stipend.

• You will work closely with the other student officers to help FoGD function.

• Both positions require a high level of organization and a time commitment.

 

Due to the nature of the job and the time involved in training, new officers must have at least a year left in school. Those who would like to be involved but who will not be in school for at least another year are encouraged to apply for the Advisory Board.

Specifically,

• The Tech position requires the student to be proficient in the following programs, applications and contexts: Adobe Creative Suite, Video and sound editing, &  Web hosting + FTP file transfers

• The Budget position requires the student to be proficient with budget management and good at filling out forms!

How did life begin? Is there life on other planets? If so, what might alien life be like? The animated Disney feature, "Mars and Beyond", takes a light-hearted 'space-age' look at these questions in spectacular mid-century design style. Despite being made before any human had ever been to space, this smart and humorous film addresses these questions in a remarkably sophisticated way. Come see this brilliant film, and chat with local experts about what we've come to learn since 1957 about astrobiology! (Food and drink will be provided)

Etsy + FoGD + You = AWESOME

Friends of Graphic Design is opening an Etsy Shop! We want to have a place that students can sell their awesome crafts and projects without needing to open up a whole shop on their own. It will operate under the umbrella of FoGD, so all you have to do is provide us with a picture of the item and a description, pay a small listing fee (to cover etsy and paypal fees), and ship your item when it sells!

To kick off this exciting new venture, we're hosting an analog Etsy at Be Honest on May 5th. We need your awesome items to fill our shop! For items sold at Be Honest, there won't be any listing fees, and it's a great way to showcase your handiwork to a bunch of the creative folks in Portland. 

To have your items featured at Be Honest and on our online shop launch, we need your submissions by April 15th (THIS Friday). Email us at [email protected] with a picture + description of your item(s), how much you're going to list it for, and your contact information! You don't need to be showing work at Be Honest to participate in the Etsy Shop!

ADX Open House!

ADX is a great new space opening up in Portland, and they're having an open house NEXT Wednesday, March 23rd! Check them out!

We're thrilled to offer members of Portland's creative community a sneak peek into ADX, a new collaborative art and design workspace located in the heart of the Central Eastside Industrial District. 

 

Please join us for an open house event:

We'll be giving tours our warehouse space, where you can learn more about our various workspaces, opportunities, resources, and tools. Catch up with staff, sign up for promotional rates, and enjoy a Ninkasi beer, Brew Dr. Kombucha, and a slice of Lonesome's Pizza on us. We look forward to seeing you here and sharing our exciting new project!

 

ADX is located at 417 SE 11th Avenue, between Oak and Stark streets.

My name is Jasmine Silver and I am the new design librarian over at Field Work. I am so excited about the possibility that the design library brings to the graphic design program: a place to study, a place to read, a place to design, a community of creative people working toward creative endeavors!
