Graphic Design Internship - Fall Term

Location: Portland, Oregon

Description:

tanQ is seeking an enthusiastic design intern to contribute to its grown in a fun and professional environment. This is a great opportunity to build your portfolio with real-life projects. You will work closely with tanQ's design and marketing team and gain real world experience in multiple areas of the design business such as: Apparel, Print, Web, Advertising, Brand Development and Social Media. This is an internship for college credit.

Qualifications:

• Candidate must be currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution (NO EXCEPTIONS); upper-class undergraduate students (junior or senior preferred).

• Candidates should possess strong skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

• Experience with Word and PowerPoint.

• Must work well in a multitasking environment and be committed to meeting deadlines.

• Must be able to commit to approximately 8-10 hours per week.

About tanQ: tanQ is life style brand headquartered in Portland, Oregon that specializes in brand building and fundraising. Yes, that means you! ADX (Art Design PDX) is encouraging people to get more involved within their community of thinkers and makers at their three-day Fabrication Fest this weekend! As a hub for creativity and community, FoGDers can check out this exciting space and network with local makers to learn about their creative process. Oh, there will be ice cream and Domo Dogs too? COUNT US IN!

INTERNSHIP OPP: Fontana Studios

Fontana Studios is looking for a intern for Fall 2011! Their progressive studio is filled with designers, fine artists, photographers, illustrators, craftspeople. Sound like your type of jam? Check it out!  

Beyond every creative studio there is always the left brain work to be done like managing office tasks online and off. Fontana Studios is in search of a intern for Fall 2011. The position would include helping with day to day tasks and assisting with a variety of (left/right brain) projects about 6-8 hours a week. Although this internship is unpaid, this could be a wonderful chance for someone who’d like to gain experience learning the process of an art /design studio. This is ideally for someone in the PDX area.

Who's Doing What? Briar's Summer Portfolio Class!

Hey FoGD! We're starting a new category called, "Who's Doing What" to show what your fellow classmates have been up to in PSU GD classes! This will help you stay up to date on what everyone is working on, as well as give you a heads up on what to expect from a class that you may be taking in the near future. To kick things off, let's see what Briar's 472 class has been up to all summer!

 What do people do in this class? 

In this course you will develop a professional portfolio and promotional campaign composed of your strongest work. Your current body of work will be carefully edited, revised, and tested to determine which pieces best demonstrate your creative abilities. You will finish with a print portfolio of 10+ pieces, a web presence, print stationery system, and a resume.

    What are some things to consider when putting together your portfolio? 

Buy your own printer, seriously! - "You might find that having a printer to work with at home, on your own time is a lot better than taking your files in to a service bureau. I know I do. It allows you more opportunities to check your work (proofreading and adjusting color to what you intended, not what the printer is spitting out). It also allows you to try various papers on your own time." - Briar 

Photograph your work well - Bad photography can distract from all of your wonderful work in a portfolio. Invest time in learning how to set up decent lighting, and hone in your color correcting skills in photoshop. Simple photography skills can make all the difference when presenting your portfolio.

Field Work Call for Projects

Field Work, PSU's student run off-campus installation and project space, is currently seeking project proposals for socially engaged art and design projects and installations for 2011-2012.

Past projects have ranged from historic walking tours to window displays to an installation project pairing professional designers with high school students. The space works really well as a home base for urban discovery and projects that explore interaction with the public.

The proposal deadline is September 15th.
