Wednesday evening a group of FoGD students visited Second Story for user testing. Second Story is a company in NoPo that works with interactive media such as interactive installations, websites, and the like. We were invited to do user testing for their still-in-development redesign of the AIGA Design Archives.
Michael Neault, Production Coordinator, was kind enough to show us around.
After signing our NDAs (which I thought were really [REDACTED]*), Michael pulled each of us aside individually to test the site. Which meant the rest of us got to play on the kiosks set up around the room!
After the testing, Michael took us on a quick tour of their space, and explained more about the project, the team, and the challenges behind the AIGA project. He said that because there were only a handful of designers he worked with regularly, it was paramount that they were able to work together well. Good advice for any creative.
He also took the time to listen to our feedback and questions we had about working in this type of environment, the website we just tested, and more. It got the wheels turning.
Afterward, we were so abuzz with ideas and thoughts that we stood outside the front door and spent around an hour talking about design, goals, teamwork, and more. Made me proud to be a part of a community of designers who are passionate about what they do. Friends of Graphic Design = Graphic Design + Community. Very inspiring.
Hans out.
What a great re-cap! I hope everyone enjoyed the user-testing. Their space looks amazing... we'll have to get a tour set up so more students can revel in its glory.
Nice work, Hans!
