This assignment begins with a basis from "How to be an Explorer of the World," an excellent book by Keri Smith, and then segues into a typical Graphic Design Branding Package!
Step 1: Analyze your collection
- due Wednesday, April 20.
Today you should have brought your collection to class. Get together in an assigned group and present your collection to your classmates. Tell us why you chose it, why it's important to you. Notice what you say about your objects, have a conversation about them with your classmates, write it down! As usual, these objects should be exciting to you! Find a way to make them exciting for your classmates and generate a discussion!
Choose 3 ways of documentation from the list below and create a mood board for each. I want a written mood board exploring one of the aspects listed below, a drawn mood board exploring one of the aspects listed below, and a photography mood board exploring one of the aspects listed below Each mood board should explore each piece in your collection. Post these in a Flickr set called "225.04."

Step 2: Create Preliminary Brand Names & Logos for Your Collection
- due Monday, April 25
Brand name: Select 10 names for your collection and develop a paragraph for each that states why the name is appropriate for the audience it is meant to appeal to. The initial concept for this campaign is crucial and will impact all aspects of its evolution. Create an idea that you will be thrilled to take to its conclusion.
Preliminary logo designs: create 12 different concepts. No credit if they are rehashed versions of the same idea!
Post these as separate pages [one for brand name ideas, one for logo ideas] in your personal Flickr set called "225.04" and on the group Flickr pool.

IN CLASS ON WEDNESDAY you will also conduct preliminary research for your mini-zine and a package to house your collection and zine. You will research and create a mood board for each over the weekend and post them in your personal Flickr set called "225.04" and on the group Flickr pool. As you uncover great ideas, remember that we'll have one week to make these! So nothing crazy, people! This is our warm-up for Portfolio packaging!
Based on your mood boards, create prelim mock-ups and sample zine layouts and packaging designs.
