A tattoo is the ultimate permanent branding: brand you! Create a personal tattoo inspired by the creators you researched previously. Tattooing has it's own genre-esque art form, but tattoo artists can create amazing feats of replication as some of these examples attest!
With this project, I'm again interested in seeing how you research, your creativity, and your design consistency.
STEP 1 - Existing Tattoo Moodboards - due Monday 4/11
Research tattoo art. One great place to start is Fuck Yeah, Tattoos [which is where I got all these images] - over 1600 pages! Dig in there! Pay attention to techniques used, ink colors, and body locations that may work for your tattoo art. Document at least 20 different tattoos on at least 2 moodboards in a Flickr set called "225.03" and post them to the group pool.
STEP 2 - Written Report - due Monday 4/11
In doing your research and writing your report you may want to start by answering the following: What are some of the current tattoo trends? What trends/styles/ink colors/body locations work for your own tattoo? What do you want to accomplish with your tattoo? How will yours be different from others? Your 1-2 page typed [10 pt. font size] double spaced report should demonstrate your understanding of the brief, include any research done, and state your goals and approach for the final tattoo. Take time to write and proof-read your paper!
Bring to class. Should I make you read it in front of the whole class? I haven't decided yet!
STEP 3 - Preliminary Sketches - due Wednesday 4/13
Now that you've done all the research and thinking/writing it's time to get down to business! Visually document your preliminary tattoo sketches in the Flickr set called "225.03" and post it to the group pool.
In class we'll go over your initial sketches in small groups for classmate feedback and suggestions. Bring your laptop, and any materials you need to work in class.
STEP 4 - Final Tattoo Presentation - due Monday 4/18
I want to see photographs of your final tattoo "in situ"! Have a friend take a photo of the location[s] on your body where the tattoo will appear, and photoshop it on there! Let's make the photos nicely compositioned and lit, designers!
Final tattoo photos due in the Flickr set called "225.03" and and posted to the group pool.
