You probably know Jessica’s work because of Daily Drop Cap a project for which she illustrated an initial cap (nearly) every day for over a year. If that doesn’t ring a bell, you might have stumbled upon one of her silly semi-educational projects such as “Should I Work for Free?” or “Mom, this is how twitter works”.

I spend my days creating beautiful and usable interfaces at Virb, the fastest and easiest way to build a website. In my spare time I create custom typography, lettering, illustration and printing. 

I grew up on Ed Emberly books and X-men comics, and have loved illustration and design since I was a little tike. When I'm not knee deep in HTML, CSS or Photoshop, you can find me at my local coffee shop, teaching class at the University of Dayton, or at home watching movies with my wife, son and our two cats.

Randy J. Hunt is the product and design director at Etsy, the world’s handmade marketplace. Prior to Etsy, he co-founded Supermarket, a curated design marketplace, ran Citizen Scholar Inc., and worked at Milton Glaser Inc. & Number 17. Hunt writes and lectures about design, and has been a visiting designer at Parsons, Pratt, Mississippi State, Portland State, and the Hartford Art School. In 2009 he was named a New Visual Artist by Print. Hunt is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and received his MFA in design from the School of Visual Arts.

Show & Tell! Ray Fenwick! Thursday, March 31st @ noon in room 160!

Let's welcome RAY FENWICK as he beams into room 160 this Thursday for the first Show & Tell of the spring quarter! A little bit about RAY:

RAY FENWICK is an artist and illustrator living and working in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. 

His work is a combination of writing and drawing that spans several media, often taking form as short, absurdist vignettes. Despite different means of creation, what is constant is his playful use of improvisation, intuition and humour as tools to explore and oppose the absurdities of contemporary life. 

AS AN ARTIST he has shown in Canada and the United States, with a residency and solo show planned for 2011. 

AS AN AUTHOR he created perhaps the first "typographic comic", Hall of Best Knowledge. The book made several "Best Graphic Novel" lists for 2008 and earned a nomination for "Best Avant-Garde Graphic Novel" from The Canadian Cartooning Awards. His next book, Mascots, is due out in December of 2010. 

AS AN ILLUSTRATOR he has worked for The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, Nike, Oprah Magazine, Random House, Houghton Mifflin, Chronicle Books and many others.

Show & Tell! Bureau of Betterment (IN PERSON) this Thursday, March 10th at NOON in room 160

Please welcome Mette Hornung Rankin aka Bureau of Betterment IN PERSON for this week's Show and Tell! The BofB is located in Portland and focuses on design for packaging, publishing, fashion and food. On the side, The Bureau is a front for exploring Mette's personal interests such as drawing, literature (fine and not so fine alike), traveling, the out of doors, letterpress printing, and finding interesting interpretations of everyday life.
