Hey Hey! A few things to keep in mind when you are making your book! Today is the day where I trouble shoot your questions and help you get your books READY!
*Though I prefer inkjet prints, the main goal is to turn in good looking images. If the laser printer that you use produces good work, use it!
*print at
copyman, kinko's, your own inkjet, your own laser printer, any of the school labs,
documart,
minuteman,
oregon blue print digital,
lazerquick, just to name a few. If you don't have a favorite printing location, now is the time to scout one out to use for the rest of the time you are in school!
*Not all of your pieces need to be on heavier stock paper. If you are exploring with different types of papers you may use a thinner stock. The main point is that I don't want your prints printed on flimsy copy paper. This is not appropriate. If you want, you may use a variety of papers. Go to
Paper Zone or
Paper Source or
Arvey's and explore! They sell a TON of different paper by the single sheet. I brought in a bunch for you all to look at.
*Your book MUST be bound, but it is up to you how you bind it.
You may coil bind it
you may print all of the images as cards and create a folder for them
you may punch a hole in the corner and fasten with a metal ring (brought one into class)
you may design a paper band and wrap your images
you may find a clear plastic bag (arvey's and paperzone sell them) and neatly pack all images into this as well (your images must fit your bag - this doesn't mean that you find any sized bag or envelope and just shover your papers into it.)
You may do ANYTHING that you can think of as long as you are not simply handing in a stack of papers to me. Your work MUST look like a finished product and not a pile. Please check with me if you feel unsure of an idea. Neither one of us wants to be surprised.
*It will be helpful to print your images with crop marks so you know where to trim (will show you where this is in class).
*NO PIXELS. Look closely and carefully at your prints. If you see pixels you are doing something wrong and this is unacceptable. Test print an image or two in class today to check!
*Don't forget your cover and title page.
*Flatten your images! Print at 300 DPI! Save as a .Tiff (if your image treatment allows) or a HIGH QUALITY JPEG.
*If you are using a computer typeface and your image is in illustrator, convert to outlines.
*If you want to add extra images or elements that is up to you. What you are responsible for is 30 images, title page, cover and having them all bound in some way - any extras are up to you!
*CRAFT IS KING!
*Remember! you are making a finished piece and not just a stack of images!
